Another angle: what aspects of
Racket do we want to advertise?

Language building.

Definitely. I like Sam's idea on this one. I want a hi-res picture of Matthew, pointing at the viewer like in the Uncle Sam poster.

Then a message like this, maybe?

               I WANT YOU
                TO BUILD
Your own language. Easy and safe in Racket.

I think it would be good to pick a specific formula for the messages
(and also to keep a similar style in the pictures).

Here's what I've been sticking to in my head:

    [ Picture of ]
    [ Developer ]
    [ ]
    [ THREE OR ]
    [ FOUR WORDS ]
    -------------------------
    Short advertisement here.
      www.racket-lang.org

The THREE OR FOUR WORDS should get the viewer's attention, and/or immediately communicate the subject of the poster.

The ad should (but doesn't have to) imply that in Racket, the poster's subject is easy, or that it's only practical in Racket. We want to convince people that it's worth trying, or that Racket has the only good solution to their problem.

I don't think we really need to tie specific people to specific things
they actually hack on.

If I can make them look awesome, why not? :) It'll be, like, commissioned portraits or something.

I'll answer my own question, though. Some people hack on more than one thing, and some things are hacked on by more than one person. But I think we can generally prefer to tie an owner to a specific feature. For general ones like language building, we have academic grandparents like Matthias, or Renaissance men like Matthew, Eli, and, uh, you, Robby.
