I think something is wrong with your setup, it's hard to tell from these 
snippets. Yet, if you'd enable debug logging, it would log the ranger request 
sent to ranger and the answer (which will be denied in our case). And ranger 
side logs would help you too.

I've tried this patch with 2.8.1 kafka and 3.1.0 kafka too and works for me.
