Apache Ranger is used to authorize access in applications that go beyond the
Hadoop ecosystem, in this context it will be useful to update "Goals Overview"
in ranger.apache.org to the following:
Goals Overview:
- Centralized security administration to manage all authorization related tasks
in a central UI or using REST APIs.
- Fine grained authorization to do a specific action and/or operation with
various data processing services and managed through a central administration
tool.
- Standardized authorization method across different data processing services.
- Enhanced support for different authorization methods: Role-Based Access
Control (RBAC), Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC), along with fine-grained
data governance features such as row-level filtering and column-level masking
to protect sensitive information.
- Centralized auditing of user access and administrative actions (security
related) for all services.
