Attila Doroszlai commented on RANGER-5837:
------------------------------------------

Thanks a lot [~abhi_2110] for updating the website. Please also consider
removing old releases from Subversion according to the [Release Distribution
Policy|https://infra.apache.org/release-distribution.html#archival].

bq. Each project's distribution directory should contain the latest release in
each branch that is currently under development. When development ceases on a
version branch, the PMC should remove links to releases of that branch from
their download directory.

Currently Ranger 0.6.3 and later are all present in the directory.

This does not need a pull request, any member of the PMC can do it.

> Download page should link to mirrors

> [Download Apache Ranger page|https://ranger.apache.org/download.html] has
> direct links to {{downloads.apache.org}} and {{archive.apache.org}} for
> release tarballs, despite stating "closest mirror site selected
> automatically". It should use the mirror system by linking tarballs via
> {{closer.lua}}. Checksums and signatures should still be linked via
> {{downloads.apache.org}}. See
> https://infra.apache.org/release-download-pages.html
> Linking via {{closer.lua}} directs traffic to mirrors, reducing load on
> {{downloads.apache.org}} (hence the policy). It also avoids the need to
> update your links when releases are archived.
> Examples:
> - {{downloads.apache.org/ranger/2.9.0/apache-ranger-2.9.0.tar.gz ->
> www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/ranger/2.9.0/apache-ranger-2.9.0.tar.gz}}
> - {{archive.apache.org/dist/ranger/2.3.0/apache-ranger-2.3.0.tar.gz ->
> www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/ranger/2.3.0/apache-ranger-2.3.0.tar.gz}}
> Please also update the [release process
> doc|https://github.com/apache/ranger/blob/49f04a583e6e1e0ae0b4332021ed94b6b84fe56f/mkdocs/docs/project/release-process.md?plain=1#L416]
>  to reflect that.
> Suggested changes for the above:
> https://github.com/adoroszlai/ranger/commit/6dd341963f4b000a0d5cd054a483ee2e92f1b8ef
> Also: "You should remove links to older releases that you no longer support".
> This usually means archived releases.
