I would also be interested in keeping this project alive in github. I would 
also like to see if we can continue to keep the name - "Ripple". 
I plan to send a mail to [email protected] to confirm that Apache does not 
own the trademark - Ripple. If Apache does not, do we have contacts in 
blackberry that we could reach out to ?

I concur, you can certainly take the code under the Apache License and a 
different name (would need to change references in the code itself too).

Nothing would prevent you to do something like that.
There are a few formal requirments, like also saying "$X is not related with 
Apache Ripple etc" anymore.
