Agreed on Tom doing a great job. However, it's easy for a project to get too comfortable with the same person always taking care of a certain task, even after he or she might grow tired of the burden. By rotating the position once every year or two we can easily prevent such a situation. So unless Tom explicitly prefers to continue as the chairman himself, I'd warmly recommend anyone who's interested and/or willing to share the responsibility to take up the offer. The only requirements are that you need to be a member of the River PMC and pay attention to the stuff that's going on in the project (and that you don't mind getting a glimpse of how the ASF board works). The duties are as mentioned by Tom, and the reward the gratitude of the rest of us (and a nice VP title to add to your resume). BR, Jukka Zitting
