This particular branch contains two things (three if you count the scala bits).

1) Is how configure and start services without using config files.
2) Is how to write your own service that uses the above.

Because it's a new way of configuring services, it's aimed at both
existing and new users.  However, the ease with which you can
configure and start services with it means that it's ideally suited to
helping new users write Hello World services.
