The media library / file upload UI in Roller came from a San Jose State
University grad student project (Media Blogging, which shipped in Roller
5.0). It was a nice improvement at the time, but there is a lot that could
be better. I decided to improve it, mostly the UI, with some server changes
to support search, paging and multi-file upload, and no database changes. I
did a bunch of iterations with Claude Code and Codex to get the look that I
wanted.

Here is a video of the new interface:

Some AI commentary on Roller related to file uploads:

Three things keep Roller from being really cloud scalable: file uploads are
stored in a local directory, the search index is stored as local files, and
the page caches are in memory on each server. Storage and search are
already behind interfaces, so these could be fixed by adding
implementations such as S3 for file storage and a search server such as
Solr, plus a shared or cluster-aware cache.
