Some kinds of nested binding do work. Others did not work in Flex either. Nested Arrays and Objects and other primitives don't dispatch change events.
In Royale, because of PAYG, some basic implementations of ArrayList should not dispatch change events at all. Some other bead or a more expensive implemention will. It seems that doesn't work, and that's a problem since defeats the purpose to have a model bindable at level class. I'm pretty sure people will do this all the time. I get it working assigning a new ArrayList is I have in the same file.
