I earned half of the beer yesterday, the outcome is attached to JIRA [1]. Once you commit the patch you (if CMS is setup correctly), you should see the staging site [2] updated. Note that redundancy of side navigation and top navigation is intentional so the community can pick what they like. I just took Adam s example and cooked up so you will have an idea on how to mix markdown and html to make it CMS friendly. I agree with Chris's comment (on the JIRA) that bootstrap template do not show ASF prominently. But this is a starting point, you can modify.
