It is not totally clear for me (I would need to take a closer look to
the work which has been done), but I think that the mapping has two parts:
* Mapping from some NetCDF attributes or variables to ISO 19123. I
guess that this would not be exactly metadata, but rather the
necessary mapping for being able to provide the required information
in the "describe coverage" operation of a Web Coverage Service
(WCS). Peter Baumann is likely to know much more.
* Mapping between NetCDF and ISO 19115 metadata. Ted Haberman is
exploring this area, but the work does not seem to be a
formalization of current ncISO mapping. The work would rather looks
forward for metadata structured in groups, and only as a second step
a flattening mechanism would be proposed for NetCDF classical
format. The ESIP community has been mentioned, so the work may be
happening there.
