SIS implements interfaces derived from UML published jointly by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In the North America ApacheCon 2014 we introduced the OGC vision and how SIS implements the “geospatial metadata” and “referencing by coordinates” international standards. In this presentation we will present what is new on the standards front: the “metadata” revision published in 2014, and the “Well-Known Text 2” format which can be seen as an evolution of “referencing by coordinates”. We will present which problems the new standards solve, and how SIS preserves compatibility between the old and new standards. Finally we will present the plan for next SIS development: coverage geometry and functions. Who the audience is: The target audience is peoples involved in the development of advanced geospatial information softwares for either desktops or web servers. Apache SIS does not provide a complete solution by itself, but may help attendees to build their own solution. The presentation may be of particular interest for those who need to follow closely international standards, like the ones mandated by the INSPIRE directive for establishing an infrastructure for spatial information in Europe. How the presentation may help Apache and open source ecosystem: The Apache SIS library gives a high priority to the respect of international standards. This presentation may help to understand the problems with the way some current softwares deal with those standards, especially the problems with incompatible interpretations of the legacy Well Known Text (WKT) 1 format, and how new standards like ISO 19162 (a.k.a WKT 2) try to address those problems. We will also present the Apache SIS efforts to help to improve conformance to standards belong the SIS community, by proposing an implementation-neutral test suite. Experience level: any
