Hi Martin, I agree maintaining two guides, one in English and one in French, is hard to maintain. Unless you have a large-ish community, and even then you need some volunteers to actively make sure the translations are not out of sync.
+1 to drop it for the developer guide. Not sure what to do with the FAQ and other smaller pages if they are translated. In Jena we have tutorials contributed by users in other languages: http://jena.apache.org/tutorials/index.html. Occasionally we see users submitting pull requests to update it, so I think smaller pages, that are easier to maintain, could be useful for users not too familiar with English?
