Hi team,

I support the decision, it will lower the cognitive load especially for new
users in the long term.

I think we could still add a short notice in the Downloads page regarding the
separation though, because a large number of out-dated blogs/ docs on public
websites still refers to < 8.7.0 therefore instructing users to look for the
agent in the OAP release.

Kind regards,
Yihao Chen (Superskyyy)

Subject: [NOTIFICATION] Plan to remove OAP v8.7.0 and previous releases from
download and doc page

Hi,

Since SkyWalking OAP is fully moving on 9.x iteration, all 8.x
releases would be removed as recommended versions on the website in
2022, like the tradition we did for all previous major version
upgrading.
Before that, I am going to remove 8.7.0 and previous releases from the
download page as well as not hosting these versions' docs anymore.
v8.7.0 was the last version separating ES7 and ES8 supports, which
always brought a lot of confusion from end users.
Also, considering it was released on Aug. 2021, which is nearly one year ago,
Another good point to do this is, 8.8.0 is the first version Java
agent that got separated from the main repository. So, after removing,
we could remove `Include doc of Java agent(<= 8.7.0)` from the main
repo's doc page.

Of course, no version and doc would be removed permanently, they are
all in GitHub's tagged versions, as well as in ASF's archive SVN,
https://archive.apache.org/dist/skywalking/.
