Just a small note: The POM currently is missing explicit version numbers for a number of plugins (antrun, source, compiler, release). The release and source versions are inherated from the apache parent. The others just work (probably due to some defaults, don't really care). Maybe we should explicitly set the version numbers of all plugins we refer to in our parent pom. Not a release blocker, though.
