Well, that's because there's no Sling book yet ;-)

OTOH, Sling is used in serious projects and products including Sakai,
the www.idium.no stuff that Vidar is working on, and Adobe/Day's CQ5
and CRX products. Although 22 months is a lot of time between the big
bang Sling 5 and 6 releases, many bundles and groups of bundles have
been released along the way, see

So I guess it depends on what you mean by "mainstream adoption". I
don't think Sling will ever replace php or ruby on rails, but for
serious java-based web development it's definitely ready.
