There is an existing JSON format for index definitions documented at
https://jackrabbit.apache.org/oak/docs/query/oak-run-indexing.html#index-definition-updates.
It can be seen in action in the Sling Starter at
http://localhost:8080/system/console/status-oak-index-defn . This looks like a
good candidate for the format.
