Robert Munteanu created SLING-12428:
---------------------------------------

Summary: Relax constraints for the maximum supported Java version
                 Key: SLING-12428
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLING-12428
             Project: Sling
          Issue Type: New Feature
          Components: Build and Source Control
            Reporter: Robert Munteanu
            Assignee: Robert Munteanu
             Fix For: Parent 61

Our current setting for 8-19 is too old, as Java 21 is already a new LTS
version. Arguments have been made that we should not keep updating the regexp
as new versions come in but rather allow any valid Java version ( with a
minimum of 8 I would say). See
- https://github.com/apache/sling-parent/pull/44#pullrequestreview-2298180136
- https://lists.apache.org/thread/jsvrlnfypo7o7pqpo4wwvg46xl46crtk

I think allowing a version that is not yet released is more flexbile, and the
failure will be evident because the java compiler will fail immediately.
