After running awhile I found the following in the syslog when there were 2 spand children shown by ps Dec 13 14:27:01 bluegill.adi.com spamd[6896]: prefork: child states: KKII at /opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.8.5/Mail/SpamAssassin/SpamdForkScaling.pm line 331, <GEN228> line 3.
