Probably a bug in my patch, as I didn't test it properly. Now that you have told me how to turn off ipv6 in my kernel I can test the whole thing instead of just asking you to try each change. I like your idea about trying to make a dummy socket as a more reliable way of ensuring ipv6 works over and above whether flags say that we think it should work.
