Sure you could do that, but how practical is it to whitelist every whitehat 
tripod subdomain?  Do you suppose there might be more than one of those?  ;-)

Our solution to whitelisting is a bit different.  We only list blackats and 
exclude whitehats from listing.  In this case we could whitelist the parent 
domain tripod.com (exclude it from ever being blacklisted) while blacklisting  
their spammy subdomains, assuming the application code knew to check those at 
the third level.
