I'm not familiar with Gentoo or how its startup works. Is it possible that a startup script can be run after the network and the DNS starts up but before they have finished initializing? What do you see when you run the commands /etc/inet.d/spamd ineed /etc/inet.d/spamd iuse If net and dns are not in the output of either of those commands, does it help to add the dependencies for them in the spamd init script?
