Summary: Default scores anglo-centric, false positives in Europe
           Product: Spamassassin
           Version: 3.0.3
          Platform: Other
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: P5
         Component: Rules
        AssignedTo: [email protected]
        ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

A number of the default scores are not suitable in a European environment, and
risk creating false positives. I suggest that the default scores should be
tweaked as described below, or at least a comment added to the default
user_prefs
template.

  score LONGWORDS 0

I have found that LONGWORDS tends to trigger on messages written in Polish.

  score SUBJ_ILLEGAL_CHARS 0.5

I have found that SUBJ_ILLEGAL_CHARS tends to trigger a lot on e-mails sent
in French by people using old Unix mailers -- typically older people who have
been brought up on Unix, quite often people in management positions in Academia.
While marking messages from one's boss as spam may be considered as a feature,
I suggest a lower score.

Additionally (perhaps off-topic for this report), I have found that
MISSING_SUBJECT and FORGED_YAHOO_RCVD tend to generate false positives,
perhaps due to the old version of SA that I'm using.

Thanks for your help,

                                                Juliusz Chroboczek
