According to netperf, Solaris 8 has a buffer size of 8192 bytes and Solaris 10 has a buffer size of 57344. That would explain it, especially when all the answers come back in a burst. It may also explain why the test sometimes passes. If the dns server has to go get the answers then the responses could come in slowly enough for the dnsbl test to keep the buffer from filling up.
