...try fiddling with the user agent in conf?

I know we want to pretend to be an interactive HTTP client so that defaults to
Mozilla, but if we get a complex-to-parse response (e.g. nothing but
javascript) perhaps fall back to spoofing curl instead to see if it gets
simpler?
