Veena Basavaraj commented on SQOOP-1965: ---------------------------------------- The implementation would be to add --name parameter in the command line. Does this sound good [~jerrychenhf]. If you can provide examples in command line that would be nice. Here is how I propose it would be {code} show connector --name foo show job --name bar show link --name baz {code} At this point the scope of this ticket is for show commands only, might be good to add seprate tickets for "Edit" and "Status" and other commands as well to use names > Naming support for Connector, Link, Job instances > ------------------------------------------------- > > Key: SQOOP-1965 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SQOOP-1965 > Project: Sqoop > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: sqoop2-api > Affects Versions: 2.0.0 > Reporter: Jerry Chen > Assignee: Veena Basavaraj > Labels: newbie > Fix For: 2.0.0 > > > Currently, each connector, link or job instances are identified by an > numbered id. (Automatically allocated by increment?) > The id is used everywhere in the shell to refer to the specific object > instance. For example, when creating a Job, link id number are specified as > from or to link. > Using of numbered id is simple for the implementation but the numbered id is > very difficult to make reference and hard to remember. > It is a common practice to give a meaningful name to each instance and thus > can be referenced with the name. This can dramatically increase the usability > of the system. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.3.4#6332)
