I have a question related to this. I would like to submit a patch that
allows for overriding the position of the error text for templates. There
is no issue in the jira and I do not see an option to add one. Can this
only be done by a contributor?

The purpose of the patch is to add an attribute to the UIBean called
errorPosition that can be used by templates to change the position of the
error text. Adding this as an attribute makes it more flexible than just
overriding the template and I believe would beneficial to more than just
myself.
