I'm less confident that this is a good solution for configure because certain platforms peculiarities have led people to always pass a --with-berkeley-db option to our configure. I fixed our configure to deal with these peculiarities, but I'm sure there are still people out there continuing to pass the option since it doesn't hurt anything.
