For the record, I asked on IRC yesterday [1] if anyone had seen an improvement on a 1.9 server with the patch compared to without the patch.
I was told that Bert and Philip both had actually seen an improvement in their tests. It might help to avoid doubt if this were written somewhere, such as in the backport nomination.
