that is actually the status bar you're talking about. ;)
dmenu is a separate program.
Are you using any patches in your dwm?

Thanks for the hint with the patches. I compiled a clean dwm-6.1 and
tried again and the bug didn't occur. I'll look for the patch which
causes the bug.
