Turning off resizehints also causes weird rendering bugs with mplayer, but that may just be my weird old system. I guess I don't really understand why terminal emulators prefer resizing to multiples of charsizes nowadays. To me, px-res sizes and gaps inside the terminal seems better than char-res sizes and gaps outside, since it gives the WM/user more options by default (i.e., you can always set the pxsize to a multiple of charsize).
