It's about 250 lines of fairly uncomplicated code (that can be disabled with a compile-time switch btw): https://github.com/mkj/dropbear/blob/a8d6dac2c53f430bb5721f913478bd294d8b52da/svr-x11fwd.c So I think it's just just a case of "it's simple enough so why not add it?" Minimalism isn't a goal in itself, but means to a goal.
