Andreas Veithen commented on SYNAPSE-495:
-----------------------------------------
Synapse itself doesn't rely on Spring. The dependency is only there for the
Spring mediator. When deploying Synapse you can safely replace the Spring
libraries by a newer version. The dependency on version 1.2.8 makes sure that
the Spring mediator works with all Spring versions from 1.2.8 upwards. There is
therefore currently no urgent need to change this. I agree with Eric that maybe
we should exclude the Spring libraries from the binary package and require
users to add them themselves (using their preferred Spring version).
