Synapse not able to read WSDL

We are using WSO2 Carbon with Apache synapse, and it is not able to read the
attached WSDL. We get the error "Unable to add proxy service :: Unable to add
Proxy service : *exampleServiceName* :: Error building service from WSDL"
However, the web service does work when we call it directly. Does anybody know
if it's a problem with our wsdl or with synapse?
