@John I think it is quite convenient to reuse these mechanisms. Actually
I think nowadays we should support the automatic detection of resources
(how ever we call them). This means more work and even more tests for us
but our users will love it. I like the way of the FasterXML/jackson [1]:
Add it to the classpath and we will use it.

I would prefer that over 2 & 3 since in most cases a string ctor/factory
won't work without lots of lookup logic.
