I committed a patch for this awhile ago off from THRIFT-1604. This breaks older
python support which was discussed on IRC and comments brought back to the
previous tickets and was reverted at that point.
I'm good with this patch, Todd what are your thoughts on this? do you have any
blockers on this still?
