Apache has had a service called GitBox which allows projects to quit using the mirror system and commit directly to GitHub. Using this service would then allow the standard GitHub workflow to be in place (like merge buttons and such).
We would have the opportunity to use GitHub issues, but I think I'd prefer to stick with JIRA at this point as we have things working there as we like pretty well and there is a fair bit of history built up in that at this point between crossreferencing comments, pull requests, etc. I think the main reason I find this interesting is in the direct push to GitHub and the standard GitHub workflow. Anyway....this isn't anything we need to do immediately. I just wanted to make everyone aware that it is an option that we have and a number of projects are already using it.
