Ok, Blackdown JDK 1.4.2.03 works fine, as well as Sun's without that package. It's just IBM's jdk. Also it's not a direct easy fix since, on Gentoo, a user can use a variety of different jdks. Would would have to have a dependency that existing only for a subset (or one) of the available jdks. I will see about making a work around for Tomcat 5.5.x. Since it's likely to remain in use for a little while, even once 6.x is released.
