I also tried
<!ENTITY myentity SYSTEM "file:${catalina.base}/foo/bar/myentity.xml">
which led to:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: ${catalina.base}/foo/bar/myentity.xml (Datei
oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden)
