All,

I have a proposed End of Support announcement.

(I find that turn of phrase odd; I always read EOL although maybe that term is being phased out?)

Comments welcome.

=== CUT ===
The Apache Tomcat Team announces that support for Apache Tomcat Native
1.2.x will end on 31 March 2027.

[[ I decided to use the same date as 1.3 to avoid confusion. ]]

This means that after 31 March 2027:
- releases from the 1.2.x branch are highly unlikely
- bugs affecting only the 1.2.x branch will not be addressed
- security vulnerability reports will not be checked against the 1.2.x
  branch
- Apache Tomcat releases after this date will require 2.0.x as a
  minimum

Three months later (i.e. after 30 June 2027)
- the 1.2.x download pages will be removed
- the latest 1.2.x release will be removed from the mirror system
- the links to the 1.2.x documentation will be removed from
  tomcat.apache.org

Please also note the following additional information:

Tomcat Native 1.2.x had already effectively reached End of Support with the release of Tomcat Native 1.3.0 on 2024-02-12. All users were expected to transition from 1.2.x to 1.3.x at that time, and we should have announced our End of Support date as 2025-02-12 when 1.3.0 was released. We apologize for that oversight.

Tomcat 10.1.x onward requires a minimum of Tomcat Native 2.0.x and are
therefore unaffected by this notice.

Tomcat 9.0.x will also reach end of life on 31 March 2027 and is therefore unaffected by this notice. Recent versions of Tomcat 9.0.x require Tomcat Native 1.3.x at a minimum.

All 1.2.x releases will always be available from the archive.
