Ok, this is not standards compliant (esp the IE solution, which can be any
encoding, and is unlikely to be UTF-8). The right behavior is to use the
default HTTP encoding. You should be able configure your own custom basic
authenticator to implement what you need, which would allow you to support the
proprietary behavior of your client.

So it does not make sense to me to include support for this.
