There is also one other option and that is to always resolve to IPV4 address if both IPV4 and IPV6 have same hostname entry. We can then add directive worker.foo.prefer-ipv6 = 1 This would cause to use first IPV6 address if found. In case hostname has either IPV4 or IPV6 address only that one would be used. This way no prefix would be needed and backward compatibility will be preserved.
