My Mac Mini is currently running Sierra - are you on high sierra? If so, I'll update mine. I've literally just pulled the machine out of a rack to plug into a monitor to do the upgrade, so let me know. I have your JDK version, let me know your Maven version and I'll match that too. Also let me know the exact command you're running, and in theory, I should be able to reproduce what you're seeing and help.
In terms of disabling parts of the test suite, I'm not necessarily against it, but I think we'll need to understand a) what we'll lost, b) if that functionality is covered elsewhere, and c) why we want to remove it. I'm doing my best to help with your build issues and will continue to do so. The test failure you already posted *does* pass on my MacBook Pro (results already posted). We do have a green build on the CI. We can run these builds at any time, and changes the tests at any point in the cycle. If we collectively agree as a community to halt the release to change these things, then I'll go with it, but I think we need to sort these things out whilst we are developing, and not at release time. Let's see where we are when we have a couple more Mac based builds.
