On a Committer's Guide: A committer is just a contributor with additional responsibilities. I'd recommend against a separate guide because a) you'd want contributors to grow into the committer role and, therefore, you want candidates to be looking ahead understanding committer tasks b) too much overlap in areas such as reviews someone contributing change better know what the committer will be looking for in the reviews and understand how the changes make it into the base product. Overall, the whole contribute-to-release is just a chain to follow where different people have different roles. Personally, I'd like to follow the chain all the way to the end to understand the whole process even if I'm not involved in all steps yet and may never be.
