Sorry guys, looks like I cried wolf. I had some encoding problems, and at first it looked like they were not possible to solve by configuration, but they were.
Another problem I had was that screens and actions were not correctly looked up by turbine. But we have built our own URL rewrite module. When I disabled it things were woking better.
