So will the platform be free in both senses (freedom and cost)?

Yes much more free than collabnet :p

well, if we give money for such a platform, I really would like to see
also some free content. ... What do others on this list think?

Well, a marketplace is not inherently evil. But I would like to be sure
that some free content is there.

Can the team commit, if funding is granted, to providing at least some
freely available content when the platform is launched?

Hi Andrea, welcome to the discussion, Florian also mentioned this. I told him that on my experience most of these sites end up with most of the content being Free as in cost.

The idea is really to be open if someone who is really good want to provide premium content, then so be it.. I wouldnt mind to have a DVD of his classes or pay to see the video if the quality in production is so awesome. Which is what other knowledge markets do like mindbites
http://www.mindbites.com/

or someone want to publish his Ebook inside the marketplace, he should do it.

But in the end I think we all gonna find good free content actually most would.
