There is an increasing amount of Wiki Spam showing up on the OOoWiki. People with Sysop status on the Wiki have been catching most of it and deleting it, but some still slips by, and manually scanning for Spam each day is time consuming.

I have started adding keywords to the $wgSpamRegex variable in the LocalSettings.php file (defines all the settings for the Wiki). This should allow the Wiki engine to pre-screen edits against a list of known words that will likely never show up in a normal Wiki pages about OOo.

The current string is:
$wgSpamRegex =
"/Shopaholic|Warcraft|wowgold|mmorpg|item4u\.com|warhammer/";

This is just a start, and I expect that the spammers will start being a bit more creative as they start to run up against the list of restricted words.

If you (as a Sysop) delete any Spam that is still getting through, make a note of some of the keywords, and especially the external websites they are linking to. We can add to the keyword list, and add a list of banned external links to at least make the Spammer work harder (and hopefully give up).

If anyone runs into the "Your edit has been blocked by the Spam filter message" for a legitimate edit, please speak up and we can try to sort out how to change the regex to allow the legit edits.
