OK, here's the crux of the issue...

We have download scripting to maintain on BOTH the home page vis a vis
the download button AND the main download index page itself
(download.openoffice.org/index.html)

I have been doing my recent development on the
download.openoffice.org/index.html

The scripting on these pages is similar but slightly different.
However, it IS a pain to deal with changes in BOTH these areas when we
decide to change something (the way we're doing downloads, where
functions are called from etc.)

Once upon a time, before the msot recent revision of the home page,
we just sent people to the main download page for downloading. This
involved 2 clicks as opposed to 1 click and, yes, a bit of a time
saver for the user.

However, I would like to re-open the discussion about this due to
maintenance issues of these two areas.

I am proposing that the download "button" on the home page return to
just being a button that gets the user to
download.openoffice.org/index.html at which point the appropriate
download for them would have been determined and they could just click
on THAT button (the one on the DL page) rather than continue to
generate the DL for them on the home page.

Thoughts?

Really this goes to maintenance issues.
