PMCs can always use lists.a.o or similar to check the mail volume for their
private lists. it was deemed that reporter.a.o should not show this from the
very beginning of the design - it has never been a feature to show private list
activity (besides, reporter.a.o has no way of obtaining that information)
I think whimsy just links to it for the sake of convenience.
