The announce list is for those folks that want to know about the new bits in the Wicket community, such as new components, library integrations, releases and events. But if you don't want to subscribe to a 80 message per day list, then you are out of options.
I know several editors for online websites and bloggers that subscribe to announce lists instead of the user lists. Not everybody is interested in the bi-weekly thread about whether or not Wicket scales or is performant where someone didn't bother to search the archives.
